MATH130 Semester 2 2011

Compulsory quizzes

You are required to complete the quizzes by their due dates. You may try as many times as you like, the quiz will be different each time, and your results for each attempt will be recorded.

The quizzes are timed, but your time is only recorded when you get full marks. This timing is not part of your assessment, it is simply for your own information. A quiz is considered passed if you have no more than two questions wrong.

If you have not successfully completed each quiz by its due date, your access to that quiz will be denied. This will mean that you cannot obtain a grade greater than F (49) unless you are granted additional time to complete the quizzes. Reasonable requests for extensions will be considered.

There is 1 bonus mark available for each quiz completed by its deadline, but 2 marks are forfeited for each deadline missed.

Troubleshooting

Mac users: make sure PDFs are set to open in Acrobat Reader, not Preview.

For Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) the quizzes will not work. In this case you should do the quizzes on campus. We believe Adobe and Apple will not have this problem fixed until the end of the year.

For Safari 5.1 the quizzes will not work. Avoid upgrading to 5.1 unless absolutely necessary.

For Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) you must upgrade to the latest version of Acrobat Reader (currently Acrobat Reader 10.1) as earlier versions of the Acrobat Reader plug-in are not compatible with 64-bit operating systems. If this is not possible, you must run Safari in 32-bit mode. To do this, quit Safari then go to the Applications folder. Select Safari, choose "Get Info" from the File menu (or do apple+i) and tick "Open in 32-bit mode".

If your name is not being displayed on the front page of the quiz, you need to tell Adobe Reader to trust data from our server. Go to Preferences and choose Security (Enhanced). Under Privileged Locations, click Add Host and type in rutherglen.science.mq.edu.au, then click OK.

If you have technical problems with the quizzes and tried the above, or if you believe there is an error in any of the questions, then email us with the full details, including your Student ID.
